David - Historical Fact

David is a direct descendant from Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton MP, Liberal MP, who took over from William Wilberforce MP in early 1820s. He led the Anti-Slavery Society to fight back the failure of implementing Wilberforce’s Slave Trade Act 1806, continuing the struggle in Parliament until the 1833 Slavery Abolition Act freed all enslaved people in the British Empire.

David’s beautiful wife, Bronwynne is also a direct descendant to Thomas Pringle who worked as the Anti Slavery Society’s private secretary to Sir Thomas Fowell Buxton after escaping to London from South Africa in 1826 due to his reform views causing their suppression.

David and Bronwynne did not know these facts until Joshua was about one year old. They learned of Thomas Pringle and were shocked but immediately proud to call their son’s middle name, Joshua Thomas Buxton.
